The 8500 rev thing was a friend driving my car. Many times I quit looking at the Tachometer after 7800 rpm.
The little cc4c Herbert would rev to 8500rpm without any valve float.
I did a lot of High speed racing where RPM was much needed and you did not want one to just lay down after peak HP. best ET in the 1/4 mile was at 7200rpm shift points.
